Le Grand Cahier
During World War II, a soldier father gives his two 13-year-old sons a notebook in which they are to write down their everyday experiences. Their family gets broken up and the boys are left in their grandmother's care. But it turns out that she would rather drink herself into a stupor than care for her own flesh and blood. Instead of finding a safe refuge, the brothers are confronted with the cruelty of war and the utter absence of love.
